Our Hospice 35th Annual Free 2021 Summer Concert on September 4, 2021

Greensburg-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce recently issued the following announcement.

Our Hospice of South Central Indiana proudly announces that Yacht Rock Revue, featuring Columbus locals, Nicholas Niespodziani and Peter Olson, will be back this year to perform live at the Our Hospice 35th Annual Free Summer Concert on Labor Day weekend, Saturday, September 4, 2021, starting at 6:30 PM. Local band, 40 Years of College, will be this year’s opening act.

“We were very pleased with the quality of the virtual show last year but very excited to have them in-person at Mill Race Park. Our Hospice is a not-for-profit, community based service that relies heavily on the generosity of our communities to support our largest fundraiser so we can continue to provide high-quality, palliative and end of life care for your family, friends and neighbors.” said Laura Leonard, President.

Plans for the drive-thru baked cookie & raffle ticket sales and the popular American Legion Fish Fry, will be announced. The format of the concert will be more condensed and additional information and guidelines will be communicated to the public once we get closer to the concert date. We hope everyone will help in our efforts to make this a safe and fun event.”

“The health and safety of our community including those attending the Our Hospice Summer Concert are our top priorities,” said Bartholomew County Health Officer, Dr. Brian Niedbalski. “Our Hospice will be working directly with me and the Covid Task Force of Bartholomew County to ensure the health guidelines in place at the time of the concert are followed. It is exciting to bring back this long-standing tradition to Columbus and we ask that everyone attending comply with the guidelines and recommendations so we can all enjoy this annual event.”

Yacht Rock Revue will perform an evening of smooth songs from the 70’s and 80’s. This top-notch group of musicians has already rocked onstage with John Oates, Eddie Money (RIP), and both versions of the band Player. They’ve trademarked the term “yacht rock,” both metaphorically and literally (U.S. Registration Number 3834195). From humble beginnings in a basement, to touring in partnership with Live Nation and Sirius XM, they now headline sold-out shows across the country, from Webster Hall in New York to the Wiltern in L.A.

Yacht Rock Revue’s first original record is ten songs inspired by the smooth sounds of the Seventies and Eighties. They’ve brazenly titled it Hot Dads In Tight Jeans – forgive them for bragging, but that’s what they are – and it returns Yacht Rock Revue to their roots in original music. The band has been featured in Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, CNN, and the Indy Star.

After many years, 40 Years of College will be back on the Hospice stage as the Opening Act with guest vocalist, Janie Gordon. 40 Years of College started when college friends – who became doctors – decided to put a band together. When other musicians joined – who also happened to be doctors – the decision was made to name the band in reference to the combined time they spent in higher education. Since then, there have been a number of changes to the lineup, but the music has remained the same. Members include Mike Stiver (vocals), Dr. Roy Goode (guitars and vocals), Dr. Dave Larson (keyboards, guitars and vocals), Dr. Drew Robertson (keyboard, guitars, and vocals), Bob Caudell (bass), and Kevin Welsh (drums and vocals).  Janie Gordon is the former Choral director at Columbus North High school and well known in Columbus for her involvement in the annual American Pie rock music/history concert every spring and with the Mill Race Theater Company musicals. She was a member of 40 YOC in the early days and has performed with the band on numerous occasions since.
