Women's Golf: IU East Wins Second Consecutive Event

22

Indiana University-East issued the following announcement on Sept. 14.

Two events, two team titles for the Indiana University East women's golf team!

The Red Wolves made it two victories in two tries this fall with a first-place finish at the Indiana University Kokomo Fall Invitational, which concluded Sept. 14.

IU East's Jo Wisecup claimed medal honors as the Red Wolves finished the 36-hole event at Rock Hollow Golf Club with a team score of 668. IU East finished 12 strokes ahead of 30th-ranked and reigning River States Conference champion Midway University.

The Red Wolves have finished ahead of a Top 30 team at both of their fall events.

Wisecup carded a final-round 81 and a 36-hole total of 161 on the par-72, 5,961-yard course to finish with a one-stroke margin over runner-up Sarah Williams from IU Kokomo.

"I am very proud of how this team played through both days," Wisecup said. "The wind was making every shot hard, but the team pushed through and never gave up.

"This was also a great first individual win. Looking forward to keeping the momentum going into the next couple of tournaments."

All five Red Wolves finished in the top 15. Brooklynn Cromwell was fourth with a 164 and celebrated her birthday with a spot on the all-tournament team.

"Overall, today was a successful day for the Red Wolves and me," Cromwell said. "I had some tough holes that really hurt me in some moments, but I received positive and uplifting words from my teammates and coach to help me move along and stay strong.

"Although we have played better before, I couldn't be happier with our win against a college rival, and I also received my first college all-tournament trophy on my birthday!"

Olivia Sanders was seventh with a 170. Paola Delgado was 11th with a 177. Annie Gillock rallied with an 85 in Round 2 to finish 15th.

IU East's next event is the University of Pikeville Invitational starting Sept. 25 in Prestonburg, Ky.
