Huntington Loses Heartbreaker to Taylor in 20T

1

Huntington University issued the following announcement on Sept. 29.

The Huntington women's soccer team gave it their all against Taylor (8-1, 1-1) Wednesday evening before falling short to the Trojans 3-2 in double overtime. It marked the fourth time the Foresters have gone to extra play and is the second straight loss for HU.

The stunner pushed the Foresters' record to 3-4-2 overall and 0-2 in the Crossroads League.

The game started out with a bang with Taylor scoring in the opening minute to take the early 1-0 lead. The hosts added another goal right out of halftime to extend the margin 2-0.

HU said not so fast when senior Courtney McKown got the Foresters on the board by scoring in the 55th minute. It was her second goal of the season and third overall for her career. Grace Gibson followed it up with a goal of her own to tie the game at 2-2 in the 62nd minute of action. The equalizer was her second goal on the year as well.

After neither team scored in regulation and the first overtime, Taylor got the game-winner with a minute left on the clock of the second OT to end the classic Crossroads League rivalry.

"This was a tough game to not get a result but certainly a quality effort against a quality team," said Coach David Lewis. "It was a nice comeback from being down 0-2.

"Courtney's goal was very composed, and it was a great upper corner shot by Grace. We nearly had a third goal by Caroline. Ireland was outstanding in net. This game is one to build on."

The Foresters are back in action at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday to host Mount Vernon Nazarene as part of the Homecoming festivities.
