Men's Soccer: IU East 3, Brescia 2 (OT)

5

Indiana University-East issued the following announcement on Oct. 9.

The Red Wolves' first win came in dramatic fashion.

Tristan Thomas scored on a header in the second overtime to lift the Indiana University East men's soccer team to a 3-2 win against River States Conference-leading Brescia University on a sunny Oct. 9 at Centerville High School.

"This was an incredible team effort today by the guys," IU East coach Steve Moore said. "The fight they showed to battle back after going down 0-1, and then to re-focus and come back after giving up a goal late was exactly the grit we've been looking for."

IU East (1-10-1, 1-3) was playing for the first time since Sept. 25. Brescia fell to 8-4 overall and 5-1 in the league.

"It was definitely needed," Thomas said. "This win will hopefully start a streak for the next couple of games. It was long overdue but we finally got it."

"The team is really happy," Thomas added. "We should go into the game next game pumped up."

"I got into position in case Brian Alvarez would cross it and he flicked it over," Thomas said. "I was just right there right next to the keeper (Caleb Ranallo) and we both challenged it. I just got to it before him and it went right over him. It was crazy, but I luckily I got to it first."

Thomas earlier scored on a header in 64th minute to put IU East ahead 2-1 with an assist from Callum Coleman.

Coleman also used his head in the 49th minute to even the score after Brescia led 1-0 at the half with an assist from Alvarez.

Brescia tied the affair at 87:18 to send the match into overtime.

IU East's final home match of the regular season is Oct. 16 against WVU Tech. Match time is 3:30 p.m. in the second match of a women's-men's RSC doubleheader at Centerville High School.
