3

Indiana University-East issued the following announcement on Nov. 12.

Chalk up another 20-win season and another postseason victory for the Red Wolves.

The Indiana University East volleyball team advanced to the semifinals at the River States Conference Championship with a three-set quarterfinal win against Oakland City University on Nov. 12.

Final score in the noon match at Indiana University Kokomo's Student Activities and Events Center: 26-24, 25-14, 25-20.

IU East (20-11), the tournament's No. 1 seed from the RSC East Division, clinched the 11th 20-win season in program history. Oakland City, the No. 4 seed from the RSC West Division, finishes 11-16.

IU East will face West Division No. 2 seed Midway University in the semifinal round on Nov. 13 at 12:30 p.m. The result of the first semifinal between IU Kokomo and IU Southeast will impact the significance of IU East's semifinal match. If IU Kokomo wins its semifinal, then the winner of the IU East-Midway match will clinch a spot in the national tournament. The tournament championship match is at 7 p.m.

IU East rallied from a 22-19 deficit to win the first set against Oakland City and thwart the Mighty Oaks' early momentum toward an upset bid. Reece Shirley's second-contact tip-kill to conclude a marathon point gave IU East a set point at 25-24. Jessica Swimm made sure the Red Wolves didn't squander the opportunity with the sixth of her match-best 14 kills.

IU East never trailed in the last two sets.

The Red Wolves hit at a .274 clip to improve to 17-1 when they post a .145 hitting average or better.
