Huntington University recently issued the following announcement.
In addition to taking a break for Thanksgiving, the Forester men's basketball team also took a break from league play to notch an 87-71 road win over Siena Heights (2-8) on Saturday at SHU Fieldhouse. This weekend's matchup was just the third time these two squads have met in the last 15 years with HU topping the Saints each time.
With this win, Huntington moves to 6-3 overall.
Today was HU's fifth double-digit victory of the season and it was Hank Pulver's layup less than four minutes in that gave his team a lead, 8-7, that wouldn't be relinquished. It was also the start of a 12-2 spurt that saw the 6-8 forward add another layup and two freebies to pad the lead to 18-9 by the 12-minute mark.
While the Saints would trim it to four on a few occasions throughout the frame, by halftime the visitors took a 39-28 lead into the locker room. After SHU scored seven of the second half's first ten points for a 42-35 difference, the visitors went off for 16 straight points to balloon the lead to 58-35 with 14 minutes remaining.
While Ben Humrichous led the Huntington charge with eight points during the three-minute blitz, he was one of four Foresters to put points on the board that ultimately blew the game wide open.
Alford and crew logged their highest field goal percentage of the season by canning 32 of their 56 attempts for 57.1 percent which included going 11-for-25 from downtown. HU also connected on 12 of their 15 free throw attempts for 80.0 percent.
Humrichous posted 17 points to top all scorers. Pulver added 15 points while Peyton West and Caleb Middlesworth finished with 14 points each. West also collected a game-best nine rebounds. Zach Goodline handed out seven dimes as the day's top assist getter.
Davin Walker was Siena Heights' only double digit scorer with 14 points.
The Foresters are on the road again on Tuesday to tip-off with Spring Arbor at 7:00 p.m.
