Huntington University Athletics issued the following announcement on Dec. 18.
The Forester men's basketball team continued their winning ways Saturday afternoon on Lingle Court by handing IU East a 93-81 loss. HU's win streak is six which includes four Ws on the road.
Huntington and the Red Wolves (7-8) have met up six times in the last decade with HU coming out on top every time.
The contest saw both teams battle for any sort of advantage through the opening 13 minutes where no more than four points separated the two squads. Colt Meyer's three-pointer at the 7:17 mark gave the hosts a 28-27 advantage. Little would anyone in the gym have suspected it would be IUK's last lead.
The Red Wolves managed just two points over the next five minutes. Alford's crew used that time to build a 42-30 cushion with Hank Pulver stepping up as the ringleader. The 6-8 forward scored eight of his 17 points during the stretch. Huntington sustained their 12-point spread to close out the period with a 46-34 lead.
While HU extended the lead to as many as 16 after intermission for what seemed a comfortable separation, IUK made it a game midway through the frame. Down 61-45, the Red Wolves pieced together a 17-6 run over a five-minute spurt to close to within five at 67-62. Ben Humrichous and Zach Goodline sprang into action to score the guests' next 11 points to give Huntington a little breathing room at 78-69 with four minutes to go.
After Peyton West's old-fashioned three-point play at the 3:20 mark, the Foresters camped out at the free throw line where they scored all but two of their final 12 points to seal the win. HU finished the game 25-for-31 from the charity stripe for 80.6 percent.
Goodline topped all scorers with 24 points. Lane Sparks went 7-for-11 from the field which included three from downtown to pour in 18 points. The 6-3 rookie guard also posted five rebounds and three assists. In addition to racking up 17 points, Pulver pulled down 11 boards for the double double. Humrichous added 12 points while West finished with ten points and a game-best five assists.
Garrett Silcott led IUK with 20 points. Other double-digit scorers for the Red Wolves included Jamisen Smith (14), Dionte Raines (13), Meyer (11) and Bryce Long (11).
The Foresters (11-3) hit the road again on Monday to play Madonna at 3:30 p.m.
