Huntington University Athletics issued the following announcement on Dec. 18.
The HU women's basketball team wrapped up the pre-Christmas portion of their schedule Saturday afternoon with a 74-59 loss to Lawrence Tech at Don Rider Field House. It's just the second time these two squads have clashed with the Foresters enjoying a 64-50 win last year in the inaugural meeting.
On this given day, the Foresters got off to a great start. Emily Seboe spearheaded the effort by knocking down her first four shots, three of which were from deep, to guide her team to an early ten-point lead at 21-11 with just under two minutes left in the opening quarter. By the first break, Huntington still held on to a 21-16 advantage.
The Blue Devils (9-7) picked up the pace in the next stanza by way of their point guard Kendall Fisher who went off for 12 of her 18 points. She knocked down two triples, but it was Maggie Long's second long ball of the frame that finally gave the hosts their first advantage of the day at 35-34 with two minutes left in the half.
Unfortunately for the visitors, they would trail the rest of the way. Halftime was just a three-point difference of 41-38 but that gap widened in the third. Julia Huey dropped in three threes for LTU to spark the hosts while at the other end, HU struggled to take care of the ball to the tune of ten third quarter TOs. It was a perfect storm that made for a 56-45 game heading into the final ten minutes where Tech outscored Culler's crew by four.
Seboe and Huey tied for game-high scoring honors with 24 points each. Seboe also claimed game-best rebounding honors with nine. Konnor Gambrell came off the bench to add a career-best 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
In addition to Huey and Fisher combining for 42 points, Jade Faris also landed in double-digits for the Blue Devils with 12 points.
Next up for the Foresters (2-11) is a trip to Cumberland University on December 29.
