Indiana University-East issued the following announcement on Dec. 18.
The Indiana University East men's basketball team dropped its second game in a row on Dec. 18 where the Red Wolves fell to Huntington University 93-81 in a River States Conference versus Crossroads League affair on Lingle Court.
With the loss, IU East falls to 7-8 overall. Huntington improves to 11-3. It was the IU East track and field All-American Celebration Day on Lingle Court.
It was a back-and-forth contest for the majority of the first half, with both teams exchanging leads eight different times, before the visiting Foresters used the final 6:09 to close out the half on a 16-6 run to take a 46-34 lead into the break.
Huntington looked like it was going to pull away early in the second half after an old-fashioned three-point play that gave the Foresters their largest lead of the game at 55-38.
The Red Wolves showed fight and heart midway through the second half and went on a 13-2 run to cut a double-digit lead down to 65-60 with just under nine minutes to play. This would be the closest IU East would get for the remainder of the game.
IU East had five players in double figures, with Garrett Silcott leading the way with 20 points. Jamisen Smith (14), Dionte Raines (13), and Bryce Long and Colt Meyer with 11 apiece also reached double digits. The Foresters also had five in double figures and were led by Zach Goodline with a game-high 24 points.
"The main thing that helped us today when we were down was effort," said Colt Meyer after the game. "The scoreboard came in our favor during our second-half run, and that was all effort. We've got to keep working hard, play better defense and make shots moving forward."
The Red Wolves hit the road on Dec. 21 when they travel to WVU Tech for a conference clash before the holidays. The Red Wolves will return home on Jan. 2 to ring in the New Year on Lingle Court against Marian. Former Red Wolf basketball All-American Bishop Smith will be recognized at halftime of the Jan. 2 game.
