Huntington University issued the following announcement on Feb. 24.
The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its annual regional athletes and coaches of the year awards for indoor track and field and among the list of honorees includes senior Dylan Felger and assistant coach Lauren Johnson.
Felger was named the Great Lakes Region Men's Track Athlete of the Year. The Ossian native is ranked first nationally in the 400 meters at 47.17c (47.92f) and 600 meters at 1:17.19c (1:18.35f) having posted both times at the Crossroads League Championships last weekend where he swept both events as well as adding a third individual title in the 200 meters.
Felger is also a member of HU's distance medley relay which holds the third fastest time in the nation. He ranks 12th nationally in the 200 meters.
Johnson was voted the Great Lakes Region Men's Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year for her work as the middle-distance coach at Huntington. It's her third USTFCCCA regional praise having received this same award for the outdoor season last spring and being tabbed the Great Lakes Region Men's Coach of the Year in cross country.
Johnson coached athletes who accounted for 66 of Huntington's 87.5 points at the CL Indoor Championships. Three of her athletes won conference titles and one earned Track Athlete of the Year. HU's 5000-meter runners earned the No. 1 NAIA #EventSquad ranking, while the mile and 3000-meter groups also finished in the top ten.
