Ivy Tech Community College recently issued the following announcement.
Ivy Tech Community College’s Indianapolis campus today announced it has received $300,000 in community project funding as part of the Federal Omnibus Spending Deal.
Congress passed the bill that included community projects funding, an initiative that was started by the U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Committee last year. Each member of the U.S. House of Representatives was encouraged to solicit proposals from community organizations for projects, and each was able to submit a maximum of 10 projects for consideration.
Congressman Andre Carson (CD7) selected an Ivy Tech Indianapolis project, which was passed in the spending bill.
“I’m pleased to congratulate Ivy Tech on receiving this community project funding to advance its mission to educate Hoosiers from all backgrounds,” said Carson. “It’s an honor to secure these federal dollars because I’ve collaborated with Ivy Tech for many years and have seen firsthand the great work this institution does in our community. Ivy Tech has earned this funding. I have no doubt that the money will help provide life-changing opportunities to many Hoosiers.”
The community project funding will be utilized for Ivy on the Go!, a mobile education unit, allowing Ivy Tech to go directly to prospective students in underserved communities in Marion County. By partnering with community and faith-based organizations, Ivy on the Go! will provide the necessary tools to recruit students, who lack access to further their education, in certificate or degree programs that will prepare them for high-wage, high-demand jobs in Marion County.
Dr. Lorenzo Esters, Chancellor of the Indianapolis campus, seeks to ensure that every resident of Marion County who wants to further their education and career has an opportunity to do so.
“We are pleased to partner with Congressman Carson to create the Ivy on the Go! mobile unit,” said Esters. “Ivy on the Go! will allow us to directly reach underserved areas of Marion County and will provide to-your-door service to local community centers, faith-based organizations, and schools. By meeting current and future students where they are, we are truly a campus without walls and will break down barriers to education and economic prosperity.”
