Rachel Elizondo from Fairfield (Ohio) High School has signed a letter of intent to play women's soccer at Indiana University East starting with the 2022 season.
Red Wolves coach Shane Meridith made the announcement on May 19.
Elizondo received a Greater Miami Valley Conference academic award during high school. While playing at Fairfield, she was also a member of the Kings Hammer Soccer Club.
"Rachel Elizondo is one of the hardest working, talented and passionate players that I have ever coached," said Steve Thomas, who is the head coach at Fairfield. "Always giving 100 percent, she is the consummate team player, always putting her teammates before herself. Rachel will be a great asset to the program."
Rachel is the daughter of Laura and Patrick Elizondo with plans of majoring in Criminal Justice.
"I chose IU East because the environment is amazing," Elizondo wrote of her choice to attend IU East. "Everyone makes you feel welcomed and it feels like home."
In addition to soccer, Elizondo was a wrestler at Fairfield and finished third in her class at the Ohio State Championships as a senior.
Elizondo is the first member of the 2022 IU East women's soccer recruiting class announced this spring.
IU East is an NAIA program. The Red Wolves have won the River States Conference Tournament twice and as a result reached the NAIA National Championships in 2019 and in the spring of 2021.
