There will be a lot more experience around the Indiana University East golf programs as the 2022-23 season begins in September.
Both teams are adding volunteer assistant coaches as Skip Runnels, Aaron Sanders and Erin Schroeder are joining the programs.
Runnels will be sharing his expertise with IU East Men's Head Coach Jeff Williams.
"To have Skip Runnels associated with the Red Wolf golf program is a really big deal," Williams said. "The experience and knowledge he brings is as good as it gets. It won't take long for our guys to appreciate having coach Runnels around the team."
A Richmond native, Runnels was inducted into the Indiana Golf Hall of Fame in 2015. Check out his Hall of Fame bio here.
On the women's side, Red Wolves Head Coach Billy Mullin will have Sanders and Schroeder to help.
"I'm very excited to have Aaron Sanders and Erin Schroeder on the coaching staff," Mullin said. "Both bring a lot of expertise and experience to the team."
The father of current IU East player Liv Sanders, Aaron spent 12 years coaching the girls team at Bedford North Lawrence High School in southern Indiana. During his tenure, the Stars won nine sectionals, four Hoosier Hills Conference titles and reached the state finals in 2017 and 2018.
"Aaron had a storied girls coaching career at Bedford North Lawrence and helped us win the River States Conference this past spring," Mullin said.
Schroeder played golf at IUPUI in Indianapolis from 2013-17. She is second on the Jaguars all-time list in career rounds played with 104.
"Erin (Ingram) Schroeder was an all-state golfer at Richmond High School and went on to an excellent college career," Mullin said.
In earning the all-state recognition, she finished sixth at the IHSAA State Tournament in 2012. She was also the North Central Conference champion during her senior year with the Red Devils.
