The Indiana University East men's soccer team dropped their second match in row on Wednesday, Sept. 7 when the Red Wolves fell 2-1 to the visiting Wolverines from the University of Michigan-Dearborn at Centerville High School.
After a back and forth first twenty minutes in the first half, it was the visitors who struck first in the 27th minute when Christian Cole found Xavier Walser to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead. The Red Wolves kept fighting though and found the equalizer in the 39th minute off a set piece corner kick from Josh Hlei who found Callum Coleman which in turn found Xavier Scott to tie the score 1-1 heading into halftime.
The Wolverines duo of Cole and Walser struck again, except this time it was Walser to Cole, in the 51st minute with a shot inside the 18-yard box that proved to be the game winner 2-1. The Red Wolves had a golden opportunity to tie the match in the waning seconds of the game when Tristan Thomas had a one on one with the goalie that sailed high.
It was a physical match with 22 combined fouls and seven yellow cards issued. IU East outshot the visitors 15-10 and had eight corner kicks to the Wolverines two.
The Red Wolves take to the road on Saturday, Sept. 10 when they travel to Kentucky to play the University of Pikeville with a kickoff at 4 p.m.
