On Monday, September 12, Columbus City Council members held a public meeting to present and discuss the proposed Council redistricting plan. Public members had the opportunity to see the proposed council district maps and compare them to current district maps.
Earlier this year, the Columbus City Council voted to move from Third Class city status to Second Class city status, automatically adding two new council members for the City. With redistricting, there would be six district council members and three at-large council members beginning in 2024.
Currently, the City has seven (7) City Council members; five (5) from designated council districts and two (2) at-large members. The proposed map adds one new council district for Columbus. Redistricting is done every 10 years following the federal census.
The proposed redistricting map is displayed below. The Council will discuss the proposed map at their meeting on September 20, and will vote on adopting it in October.
