The men's soccer team traveled to Ann Arbor, Michigan Wednesday afternoon for a conference battle against the Cardinals of Concordia University. The Warriors picked up the road win with a convincing 6-2 result.
The first half was heavily controlled by the Warriors, who held the ball most of the half, primarily in their attacking half. The Warriors outshot the Cardinals 23-2 in the first half with a 10-1 advantage in shots on target. Tech broke the tie first, finding the back of the net in the 28th minute. Good build-up found the feet of Douglas Appiah, who slotted a ball to Aaron Asamoah above the six-yard box for the goal. Marc Junca earned a yellow card in the 38th minute, which gave Concordia a free kick in the Warrior's defensive half. After a partial clearance, the ball fell to Bryce Ferrin, who hit a volley that found the net, knotting the game 1-1. The game was only tied for a minute when Lucca Motta drew a foul in the 39th minute on the right edge of the penalty box. Motta then stepped up and found the back of the net on the free kick. Motta scored his second goal of the match in the 42nd minute. He cut back to his left and ripped a shot past the keeper from the top of the penalty area.
The Warriors picked up where they left off in the second half, firing six shots in the first ten minutes, with Nathan Raguin finding the back of the net in the 56th minute. A switch ball found his feet on the right edge of the penalty area. He took on his defender, beating him with a nutmeg, and found the goal. Douglass Appiah added his second assist of the game in the 68th minute when he tracked down a long corner, beat his defender to the end line, and slotted a ball on the ground to David Ambaek at the penalty spot, who found the bottom corner. The Cardinals notched one back in the 74th minute with a goal from Elijah Boye. A clearance from Salvado deflected off a Tech defender, which let Boye in on an open goal for the finish. Indiana Tech answered in the 84th minute with a goal from Ryan Steele on the counterattack. Brendan Sidaway played a ball to Steele, who hit a one-touch finish to the near post. Tech finished the game with thirty-five shots and sixteen on goal, with Concordia recording eight and six. Juame Salvado played all 90 minutes in net, recording four saves.
Tech is back on the road for their next game, Saturday, October 1, traveling to Washington, Michigan, to take on conference opponent Warriors of Rochester University. Tech is 8-2 in the series while holding a seven-game win streak. Most recently, they won 5-1 on October 23, 2021.
