Warriors fall to the Foresters on a Last-Second Shot

The No. 24 ranked Indiana Tech women's basketball team hosted the Foresters of Huntington University Thursday night in the Schafer Center. A final score of 73-72 in favor of the visiting Foresters came down a last-second three-point shot. This moves the Warriors to 0-1 to start the 2022-23 campaign.

Juliana Burris had a team-high 24 points shooting 10-15 from the field and 1-3 from behind the three-point line. Erika Foy scored 14 points on 5-12 shooting while corralling 9 rebounds, which led the team. Kyra Whitaker was 3-8 on the floor scoring 11 points while going 3-3 from the free throw line.

The Foresters started the scoring tonight with Alli Vaughn finding the bottom of the net from behind the three-point line. Huntington maintained a lead for most of the first quarter before the Warriors went on a little 8-2 run to knot the game at 19 with 56 seconds left. Bethany Worm hit a jump shot, and Juliana Burris added on at the free throw line to put Tech up 22-19 at the end of the first.

Tech led the second quarter from start to finish, with Erika Foy leading the team, scoring 7 of her 14 points in the second. Juliana Burris added 5 for the Warriors, allowing them to take a 41-34 lead into the locker room. The third quarter favored the Foresters, with Tech turning the ball over 7 times in the third. Burris added another 6 points to her total for the night in the third.

The close contest came down to the final few seconds when Juliana Burris scored a contested layup off an inbound to give the Warriors a 72-70 lead with 2.7 seconds left on the clock. The game ended as Huntington's Celeste Ryman hit a three as time expired off an inbound from Dazia Drake to give the Foresters a 73-72 win.

Tech takes the court in the Schaefer Center for their next game on Saturday, October 29, when they host Georgetown College (Ky.), with the game set to tip off at 6 PM.
