Oakland City Pulls Away From Red Wolves With Big Second Half

After the first 20 minutes, the IU East women's basketball team trailed Oakland City by one.

But the second half slipped away from the Red Wolves as shots didn't fall in the 91-61 loss to the Might Oaks in an RSC clash.

The loss gives IUE the first conference loss of the season. Addie Brown scored a team-high 17 points. Davina Smith was also in double-figures with 10 points and added six rebounds.

The Red Wolves didn't trail in the first quarter. They started off on a 6-0 run capped off by a Kennedy Griffin layup. They would grow their lead by as much as seven when Griffin hit a 3-pointer to give IUE an 11-4 lead. The Mighty Oaks then would go on a 10-3 run to tie the game at 14-14. Smith's jumper at the buzzer gave the Red Wolves a 3-point lead after the first 10 minutes.

Oakland City grabbed their first lead of the game with 2 minutes remaining in the first half. After Brown's layup gave IUE a 38-34 lead, the Mighty Oaks went on a 7-0 run. Taylor Browning's layup toward the end of the half trimmed the deficit to one heading into the halftime break.

The Mighty Oaks outscored the Red Wolves 25-6 in the third quarter to pull away.
