The Indiana University East women's basketball team dropped an 80-75 River States Conference decision to IU Southeast on Tuesday, Dec. 20.
The Red Wolves are now 4-10 overall and 3-3 in the league, while the Grenadiers are 10-4 and 3-2.
Davina Smith led IU East with a season-high 25 points on Lingle Court. For Smith, it was the fourth straight game and seventh time this year she has reached double figures. She also grabbed eight rebounds.
Tia Tolbert finished with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Addie Brown also had 10 points. Both players topped IU East with four assists.
IU East fell behind early as IU Southeast held a 22-14 advantage at the first stop before building a 44-26 lead at the intermission.
In the third quarter, the Red Wolves started a comeback as they cut into their deficit.
By the final stanza, IU East continued to fight and when Sally Mortenson drilled a 3-pointer with 1:13 remaining to the Red Wolves trailed 76-73. A pair of free throws by Caitlin McEldowney with 39 seconds left made it 78-75, which would be as close the Red Wolves would get.
After a week off, the Red Wolves head to the Siena Heights University Classic in Michigan on Dec. 28-29.
IU East faces the host school on Wednesday, Dec. 28. The contest gets underway at 6 p.m. The Red Wolves play the University of St. Francis (Ill.) the following day at 5 p.m.
