IU East Rally Comes Up Short at WVU Tech

The Indiana University East men's basketball team got the 2023 portion of the season underway with an 81-76 loss at WVU Tech on Tuesday, Jan. 10.

Despite a late rally, IU East is now 9-8 overall with a 3-4 record in the River States Conference. The Golden Bears are 10-8, 5-3.

After the Red Wolves grabbed an early lead in the first half, the Golden Bears built a 12-5 edge at the 12:20 mark of the opening frame at Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. WVU Tech widened the gap to 37-21 by the intermission.

In the second half, Tobey Billups scored the last six points for IU East as the Red Wolves fought back in the final moments cutting their deficit to four points on three occasions.

Jake Johnson led the Red Wolves with 24 points. Billups finished with 15, while Bryce Long tossed in 11.

Colt Meyer added nine points for IU East and Sekou Maiga pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

Andrew Work and Bryce Radford topped the Golden Bears with 18 points each.

The Red Wolves return to action on Lingle Court against Alice Lloyd College on Saturday, Jan. 14. The RSC affair starts at 3 p.m.
